June 2021 Note: Please note that due to recent clinic procedural changes in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, certain volunteer opportunities are indefinitely suspended. As non-essential visitors are not permitted at most clinics, we cannot currently accept waiting room readers. Additionally, due to limited storage capacity and lower demand, we cannot accept donations of used books for clinic use. This page will be updated if and when these opportunities are once again available. Please use the form below to contact us with any questions.
Let's build better brains together
Reach Out and Read Minnesota has a number of ways to get involved and share the brain building power of books across our state.
Book drives: Our partner clinics are always grateful to receive new children's books they can use for our core program. Volunteers can organize online book drives for our program by asking their community members to purchase new books through a local bookstore or one of Reach Out and Read Minnesota's book distribution partners. Additionally, many clinics accept used books to stock their waiting rooms, exam rooms, and to provide sick children outside of our core program. In addition to the new books families receive at the well-child visits, these used books can help build families' home libraries, a vital resource for any developing child! We have worked with schools, offices, community service clubs, and many other businesses and organizations to provide used books to children across the state. Learn more. Please note that as of summer 2021, we are unable to accommodate most used book donations. This page will be updated if and when this changes.
Reading to children: A number of our partner clinics accept volunteers to read to children in their waiting rooms. Volunteer reading opportunities are available according to clinic need. Clinics generally require background checks to have direct contact with children. Please note that this program is currently suspended. This page will be updated if an when this changes.
